Evoking Memories
Before I spotted them, I smelled them. My thoughts went immediately to my mom. Smells evoke more memories than any of our other senses. As I turned onto the Peace Walk along the Cultural Trail, there they were - lovely lilacs - so many of them, so fragrant, so reminiscent of Mother’s Day memories.
I stopped to smell the flowers; I allowed the lilac fragrance to envelope me; I closed my eyes in silence—and I thought of my mom! She gave me hope for a brighter tomorrow by instilling in me the courage to accomplish anything, and be anything I set out to be. I remember hearing her tell me that, if I could read it, I could do it. While she was talking about cooking, baking, and crafts, this has proven true in many other areas of my life!
Today, these lilacs bring me hope, just like my mom did. Hope in the memories that can propel us forward to be the best that we can be! Hearing her words, smelling the lilacs, walking the Cultural Trail’s Peace Walk brings me hope!
