Ann Dancing
“Community offsets loneliness. It gives people a vitally - a necessary sense of belonging.” -ALVIN TOFFLER, The Third Wave
Today’s walk took me along Vermont Street and Massachusetts Avenue. It’s harder than I thought to be all alone on the streets of downtown.
Being an introvert, when the topic first came up of two weeks of isolation, I thought it would be great. However, I quickly found that social interaction is part of our DNA. God created us for community: otherwise Adam never would have needed the animals or Eve.
In these days we have to watch out for loneliness. Toffler’s quote is true. Fortunately, Zoom and Facebook and other social media platforms help in our struggle to belong and find community.
Prayer is my constant companion. As I walk it is imperative to have God with me as it helps in my need for community. May it help you as well. It does bring hope.
One sign of hope in my walk was the piece of art on the Cultural Trail called “Ann Dancing”. Everything is changing around us, but Ann keeps on dancing. Just as God keeps walking (or possibly dancing) with us (or slightly ahead of us).
Each day as I walk during April, I will post a message that hopefully brings hope during this time.
