Ginko
When things arrive in three’s I take notice. The word “ginkgo" came into my life 3 times recently.Gin
1. Walking into Bazbeaux’s Pizza on Mass. Ave. with Cindy and Jean, there were a pile of leaves by the curb. Jean mentioned they were ginkgo leaves. Interesting shape but a drab, monochrome yellowish color.
2. While visiting Oberlin, Ohio, two weeks ago there was a really fun, artsy store on Main Street called Ginko’s. Lots of interesting pieces by local artists.
3. When I returned home from Ohio, a gingko leaf was stuck to the bottom of my shoe.
Since those experiences, I’ve been trying to understand why "ginkgo” would be important in my life at this time and what message I can derive from it. Well, it is a season of remembering for me as I unpack boxes and think of Thanksgivings past, and ginkgo is an herbal supplement to enhance memory and concentration.
Therefore, this morning I walked along Delaware Street and picked up ginkgo leaves bringing them inside the apartment to write incidents that I want to remember on them. Words and phrases like: footed pajamas, button button, S.D. trips, Talk’s Cheap and more. It was fun to think of things to write on the leaves.
As I wrote I also thought of the Gospel lesson last week in Luke 23 that tells of the person on the cross next to Jesus who said: “Remember me." We all like to be remembered I believe. What stands out in this story is the fact that Jesus far exceeded the man’s expectations. He did not only remember him but told him that he would be with Jesus in paradise that very same day. We can be sure that Jesus says the same to us when our last day here comes.
May you always remember Jesus’ great love for you. Hope
