“Wait”
Living in downtown Indianapolis, I walk many places. As I come to a crosswalk, I always hit the button on the post to change the sign to “walk”. I enjoy hearing the person’s voice when I press the button. It’s a little thing, but I often push that button over and over just to hear that person’s voice. Generally they say “wait”. So I may hear “wait” being said multiple times before it changes to “walk”. As I’ve waited with others at the crosswalk, some have commented that I do not have to hit the button more than once since it won’t make it change any faster, just like an elevator button. However, I hit that button to hear the voice and the word “wait", not to make it change faster.
Patience is not a virtue of mine. That may be another reason why I hit that button over and over. You have to have patience to wait. Waiting in lines, waiting for someone to arrive, and waiting for an event to take place can be maddening at times. I set countdown calendars on my phone to help me wait. I make paper chains. The other day I noticed I was tapping my foot and counting the taps while waiting in line. Anything to help with the waiting.
The days before Christmas, the season of Advent, is the season of waiting. Now, with the passing of Epiphany, the Christmas equivalent in Eastern Orthodox churches, the New Year is now upon us!
What are you waiting for in 2019? What are your hopes and dreams? What would you like to see come to pass in your life that you have been waiting a long time to see transpire? My friendly therapist Don talked with me about the things I’ve been waiting to happen. I said I was done thinking about some of them because I can’t stand the waiting. He said: “What we think about, we bring about.” So keep thinking about those things you want to happen. Pick out one and make it happen in 2019. I’d love to hear what it is.
And, while I’m waiting to hear from you, I’ll check out some Bible verses about waiting found in Lamentations 3: 25, Psalm 27: 14, Micah 7: 7, Hosea 12: 6, and Titus 2: 13.
