An Embroidered Hanky
In each of the readings for this Sunday, November 7, 2021, (Isaiah 25: 6-9, Revelation 21: 1 - 6a, and John 11: 32 – 44), tears are mentioned. When I think of crying, I think of my grandmother who always had a hanky she had embroidered tucked into her sleeve. Whenever I cried from having fallen and skinned my knee, stubbed my toe wearing flip-flops for the first time that summer or a myriad of other reasons, out came the hanky. She dried my tears, held me closely and rocked me in her arms. I miss her and her hanky. (Actually, her hanky resides in my dresser drawer and is pictured here.)
When was the last time you cried? Who wiped those tears away? Hopefully, someone was there with their “hanky” for you. If not, remember that God is there loving you and wiping your tears away. And, one day, God will be wiping away ALL our tears. There will be no more tears in that day. Thanks be to God.
