Smiles Begin With....
Who makes you smile? Sometimes smiles begin with just that person’s presence. Sometimes smiles begin with their witty words. Sometimes smiles begin with their smile. It is often hard to be dour when someone smiles at me. Smiles are magic to the soul. I’ve noticed that it is so refreshing to be around people who smile. Recently on the Indiana Historical Society “Grave Matters” cemetery tour in Southern Indiana, this saying about smiles was on one of the graves.
Wouldn’t that be wonderful to have someone say that about us, either while we are here, or, after we are gone? So much of life is difficult, violent, hard, and sad. It is important that we surround ourselves with people who help us smile. Think it over today. How would you finish this statement: “So many of my smiles begin with?” List their names. Write them a note. Thank them. Encourage them to keep those smiles coming.
In the 29th chapter of Job from The Message, it is written: “When I smiled at them, they could hardly believe it; their faces lit up, their troubles took wing. I was their leader establishing their mood.” Hopefully we can be the leaders establishing the mood with our smiles and helping their troubles take wing.
