“Together”

As I thought about Messiah’s youth group Sunday night and what we would talk about, I went back to one of my favorite set of Bible verses from Acts 2: 42 – 47:

“They devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching and to fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayer. Everyone was filled with awe at the many wonders and signs performed by the apostles. All the believers were together and had everything in common. They sold property and possessions to give to anyone who had need. Every day they continued to meet together in the temple courts. They broke bread in their homes and ate together with glad and sincere hearts, praising God and enjoying the favor of all the people. And the Lord added to their number daily those who were being saved.”

I’ve used these verses with all my youth groups over the past 35 years. The word “together” stands out to me, appearing three times in these verses, as well as this word “together” coming to me three times in my personal life this week.

Being an introvert, I enjoy being alone at times; however, being together is so much better most of the time. This past, long weekend I totally enjoyed being together with my family. As much as I enjoy my children and their spouses, those grandkids are so, extra special.  I do look forward all year to our Thanksgivings together.

In worship this past Sunday, feeling alone after leaving my family and knowing we wouldn’t be together again until July, the word “together” hit home again in the closing to Pastor Erik’s sermon which gave me hope:

“Today we leave this place not alone, but with Jesus Christ, the Alpha and Omega – the One, like a human being, who sits at the right hand of the Father.  This Jesus, our Jesus is a different kind of King, reminding us that we too are different, because we are his.  Together we will listen to God’s truth. Together we will make God’s love known. Together, we will sing a new song!  Amen.”

Together, again in three parts……together…..together is indeed a very good place to be…..together!
