Something's in Your Ear

Pentecost Greetings,

The other day I traveled on the Megabus from Indianapolis to Chicago.  The more I travel, the more I notice things in people’s ears.  The majority of people have something in their ear - be it an MP3 Player, IPhone, IPod, Bluetooth, headphones to their laptop watching a movie, or some other device I’m not familiar with.  For some reason, try as I might, I cannot handle things in my ear.  It gives me a headache to have that sound isolated in my ears.  Sad in a way because I could listen to books on tape or watch movies, too, while traveling since I can’t read in a moving vehicle without getting sick.

So, I am the odd woman out generally.  It used to be that I would talk to people while traveling.  Now they have no reason to talk to while away the hours.  I think they should have a reserved section for people who want to talk without ear devices.  *smile*

While I stood on Washington Street waiting for the Megabus and saw all the people around me listening to something of their own choosing, I thought of my favorite blessing from Jeff Johnson and Ark Music especially the line that goes:  May your ears hear the glory of Jesus Christ in our midst

So I closed my eyes and listened.  The sounds of men laughing as they left the city county building, the wind in the leaves on the trees, the mom telling her child not to pick the pretty flowers, the different vehicles going by, the man asking for change, the ambulance siren, the people riding bicycles, people talking on cell phones all caught my attention.  Were all these sounds pointing to the glory of Jesus Christ in my midst?  I’d have to say yes.

The sounds of the city, just like the sounds of nature, reveal the glory of Jesus and that Jesus is with us.  I love the city and have to catch my breath every time I see a city skyline, even the Indy one which I see daily.  God is there.  Christ is there.  The Spirit is there.  Touching people’s lives.  Healing people.  Relieving people of their pain.  Helping them to laugh.  Wiping away their tears.  Waiting for people to hear that Jesus Christ is indeed in their midst.

Jesus is with you always and forever.  Trust that.  And may your ears hear the glory of Jesus Christ in our midst.

Hope
