68 Degrees

Such a beautiful day!  I am a true fan of 68 degree, sunny weather. As I walked to my car parked for free, yes parked downtown for free, on Talbot Street behind my apartment building, I was looking for a robin’s nest.  Although I did not find it, I was taken aback by this picture of the vibrant green of the trees against the bright blue sky.  Green is not my favorite color, however, this green so beautiful.  Green does bring a sense of new growth, new life, new hope!

In our church, the color green is the predominate color during the church year. When we return to our worship space, green will be seen in the paraments and Pastor Erik’s stole and chasuble for many months. This color symbolizes a time of growth in the Christian faith through the study of Jesus’ life and teachings.

Seeing these trees thus reminds me of church and being in community there.  It also reminds me of growing in Christ.  And finally it reminds me of a dearly loved song my dad used to sing:  Louis Armstrong’s “What A Wonderful World”. The lyrics say: “I see trees of green, red roses too, I see them bloom for me and you, and I think to myself, what a wonderful world!”

How fortunate we are to have a God who created such a wonderful world for us. In spite of our pandemic fears, economic woes, and isolated loneliness, we can exclaim:  "what a wonderful world!“

Genesis 1:11-12:  "Then God said, ‘Let the land produce vegetation: seed-bearing plants and trees on the land that bear fruit with seed in it, according to their various kinds.’……And God saw that it was good!”  Now, indeed, that gives me new hope!
