Easter Pork & Beans

“…then he went home, amazed at what had happened.” Luke 24: 12

Easter, as with most holidays, was a big deal growing up.  There were so many things to get done ahead of time to enjoy the day.  I remember the one Easter my niece Amy, who was probably 3, said she wanted beans for Easter. My mom asked her what kind - expecting her to say jelly beans.  Instead she said pork & beans.  My mom was amazed and decided to have fun with this.  On Easter Sunday Amy went looking for an Easter basket with jelly beans in it.  Everyone, including Amy,  was amazed to see her basket filled with cans of pork & beans!

The women going to the tomb on Easter did not quite get the concept Jesus had taught his followers about his death and resurrection 3 days later.  So, the women went to the tomb looking for a body and found it empty. Quite startling for all.  The verse says that Peter went home amazed.

Take some time this week to write down all the things you find amazing about God.  Keep it out where you can add to it as you go about your days.  Then take time to thank God for each amazing thing!

Amazing God! Thank you for all that you have given us but especially for the eternal life given to us through Jesus’s death and resurrection.  Amen.

My favorite picture of Amy and me from about 1976.
