Leaving Your Mark
When my oldest son, Jason, was over in England, my daughter, Shannon, had his permission to drive his car. Unfortunately, she became involved in a minor fender bender and decided to have it repaired at an auto body shop, thinking her brother would never be the wiser. Upon his return, Shannon, Aaron and I picked him up at the airport. The first thing he said when seeing his car was “thanks for fixing the dent in the back fender”. The accident she had was in the front! Even though there were no marks, her brother believed something had happened to his car. And the truth came out!
The marks on Jesus’ body led Thomas to believe. Thomas saw where the nails and spear had pierced him. (Did Thomas actually touch them or just see and believe? Does it really even matter?) Thomas believed! Thomas said to Jesus, “My Lord and my God!” John 20: 28
People notice what you do and also what you don’t do. Whether you stoop down to help the fallen, lend a hand to someone in need, or just reach offer a smile or word of encouragement, the world notices. So choose wisely. They notice the marks you leave on the world; as well as the marks you don’t leave!
Because of the marks on Jesus, may we choose to always leave marks in other people’s lives that lead them toward believing in Jesus!
Prayer: God, help us to leave our mark in the world—a mark that will help people to believe in you and exclaim: "My Lord and my God!“ Amen
