Head to Foot
Posted here are the pictures of my feet traveling to Destin, Florida.
On Saturday I drove through Kentucky. Psalm 26 came to mind about God examining me from head to foot and keeping in step with God. God always keeps in step with me but how often do I keep in step with God?
Several hours later in Tennessee my feet were in a gas station that sold Moon Pies. Although Moon Pies originated in Kentucky in 1917 when a coal miner asked for a snack as big as the moon, I saw my first one on this trip in TN. Although Psalm 17: 5 does not speak about Moon Pies, it does talk about feet saying:
“ I’m staying on God’s trail;
I’m putting one foot
in front of the other.
I’m not giving up.”
Hmm, sounds like I could have written that instead of possibly David thousands of years ago. Nice to know we think alike :-)
November 8th, now in Alabama, I stopped for lunch at a place named Doc’s. Very interesting local place where it appears many people come for Sunday dinner after church. It was dark and not the cleanest; however, the women all wore dresses and the men had on dress shirts and ties. The non-locals, like me had on jeans and t-shirts. Every item of homemade food was fried and there was plenty of sweet tea. I spoke directly with the cook who also served me. Love that woman! I collect menus and post them on my kitchen wall. There are decades of menus from Washington State to Minneapolis to Chicago to Detroit to Maryland. I wanted the menu from this place but they refused to even sell it to me because “”their boss would be angry.” So, I took a picture of it. :-) And sang the words: “Thy Word is a lamp unto my feet and a light unto my path” from Psalm 119:105 as I drove on.
Destin, Florida, was my destination. Wonder if that’s how it got it’s name? The lady at the desk told me that many New Orleans chefs come here as their vacation destination and never leave, opening up great restaurants here. I wasfinally able to get to the white sands I heard so much about from others who travel here. It felt so good to put my toes in the sand and in the Gulf of Mexico, and I am happy from the inside out. Check out Psalm 16: 9-11 -
“I’m happy from the inside out,
and from the outside in, I’m firmly formed.
You canceled my ticket to hell—
that’s not my destination!
Now you’ve got my feet on the life path,
all radiant from the shining of your face.
Ever since you took my hand,
I’m on the right way.”
So my travels bring me tI today. The day my daughter Shannon was born 34 years ago. “Lady” by Kenny Rogers was on the radio as we drove to Oakwood Hospital for the scheduled C-Section. My dad was staying with Jason who was 2 years old at our house on Lennane in Redford Twp. where our cat Patches just had kittens and was busily transferring them from the upstairs bedroom to the basement as I walked out the door. Shannon was born with a head full of dark hair and those beautiful eyes. How I loved her at that moment and how I love her now. A woman strong physically, lifting Atlas stones and pulling her husband’s pick-up truck; a woman strong spiritually, leading a Bible Study Fellowship small group and always reminding me of God’s love; and a woman strong in love, loving me and her boys and many others deeply. I’m so thankful she is my daughter.
