Genesis

One band I have liked all through the years is Genesis.  At my home in Redford, Michigan, I had their poster on the inside of the closet door.  My kids would tease me about it.  Today as I did morning prayer, I read a verse that reminded me of them.  A verse that never jumped out at me before, and I realized that the theme that Genesis sang about in the 80′s was actually begun in the 8th century BC or possibly before that.

In Isaiah 5: 20 the prophet wrote:

“They say that what is right is wrong and what is wrong is right, that black is white and white is black; bitter is sweet and sweet is bitter.”  He goes on to say woe to those.

Genesis sang:

“Just as I thought it was going alright

I find out I’m wrong,  thought I was right

s'always the same, it’s just a shame, that’s all

I could say day, and you’d say night

tell me it’s black when I know that it’s white

s'always the same, it’s just a shame, that’s all.”

Disagreements.  Arguments. Battles.  Opposing views..  Definition of marriage. A massacre in South Carolina and racial and flag struggles. A president some say is right and some say is wrong singing “Amazing Grace”.

In the end all that matters is exactly what Obama sang about - amazing grace. Thanks be to God.  May we all keep that in mind on Facebook, in person and most importantly in our hearts.
