Smelly

Today’s walk was warm.  Too warm by my standards, but I know many love this weather, so I’m happy for you.  The sunshine was indeed very invigorating. What I noticed today, however, does not make for a “pretty picture” like some of the others I have taken.

As I walked I first smelled, and then I saw, the freshly laid-down mulch. Everywhere I turned, there was more.  At first it was a bit annoying until I thought about the people who directed it to be placed there.   Those folks had to have an expectation that weeds would soon be growing in those flower beds.  Therefore, they laid down mulch to keep the weeds out and the water in.  That’s hope that new growth would soon appear in one form or another!

When I think about the “mulch” in my own life, my spiritual life, I think about keeping evil and sin at bay.  I can do that only when I keep my Bible, Bible studies, worship, prayer, and meditation on top of my life.  They are my “mulch”. They cover my life with those things that are beneficial to my soul.  Take refuge in my sanctuary - in my God.   That is my hope!

Philippians 4: 8 needs to be my “mulch”:  "Finally, beloved, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is pleasing, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence and if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things.“  Those things are of God.  Those things bring hope!
