Yearning
Homesick for? What are you homesick for? Or, possibly, who are you homesick for? Some I know at Messiah are homesick for the way things used to be before the Pandemic. They speak of how it used to be, how many people they miss, how they long for it to be that way it was. This shows us that homesickness doesn’t have to be only for a place. It can be for relationships.
I miss the relationship with my sister Sharon. I get homesick at this time of year for the planning that we did for the holidays, the cooking, the reminiscing over Thanksgivings past, the memory we’d laugh about of the turkey my mom made out of a pineapple and put on my oldest son’s high chair for his first Thanksgiving. We’d talk about going to my grandmother’s cottage for the Wittkopp family Thanksgiving, drawing names for Christmas, and Aunt Joanne’s ambrosia.
Which relationships are you homesick for?
The “Close to Home” contemporary worship series at Messiah Lutheran in Brownsburg, IN, will explore the theme of homesickness on Sunday, November 28 at 11am. Are there those you know who might like an 11am service or a contemporary service? Please let them know. Messiah will continue the 9am traditional service each week as well.
I’d love to hear from you which relationships you are homesick for? Who are you homesick for?
