Tip & Restaurant #1

This is the last of 10 tips to stay closer to Christ and the last restaurant (for now) that I enjoy downtown Indy.

Tip #1 to staying closer to Christ:  Relax

Come down from this mountain at your own pace.  Don’t sink into the valley though.  Walk through the valley boldly.  Study.  Serve.  Share God with others. Be kind to yourself. Do what you can do when you can do it.  Don’t force it.   Relax and let the Holy Spirit guide you.

I’m not sure how many of you used to watch the TV show LOST, but I was glued to the TV set every Wednesday night when it came on - church meeting or not!  (smile)  One episode had a conversation between Locke and Charlie that really hit home with me, especially when I try to hurry something along, like my spiritual practices which cannot and should not be rushed.  The conversation went like this:

LOCKE:  Let me show you something.

He leads Charlie to a tree, points out a COCOON on its trunk.

LOCKE:  What do you suppose is in this cocoon?

CHARLIE:  I dunno.  Butterfly, I guess.

LOCKE:  No.  It’s much more beautiful than that.  This is a moth cocoon.  Butterflies get all the attention. But moths?  They spin silk.  They’re stronger. Faster.

CHARLIE:  Yeah.  Wonderful.  What’s the –

LOCKE:  See this tiny hole?  This moth’s almost ready to emerge.  It’s in there right now, struggling, digging its way through the thick hide of the cocoon.  Now I could help it, take my knife, gently widen the opening, and the moth would be free.  But it’d be too weak to survive. The struggle is nature’s way of strengthening it.

The struggle is how you become strengthened?  Struggling with the Bible, devotions, prayer time, loving everyone, etc.  Don’t rush it.   Relax.  Relish it!

Indy Restaurant #1:  Not in a true top 10 fashion as I like all of the ones I listed.

O'Bryan’s Nine Irish Brothers at 575 Mass. Ave. is amazing, although you have to be over 18, so Judah, my year-old grandson, wasn’t allowed in when his mom and I wanted to eat there.  My favorite is the goat cheese balls and the Reuben egg rolls.  Oh my!  Delicious.  See more at: http://www.nineirishbrothers.com
