Entering the Darkness
This quote by Thomas Merton is very profound in my thinking at this time of my life: “Our Christian hope is the purest of all lights that shine in the darkness, but it shines in darkness, and one must enter into darkness to see it shining. " How often do we go into the darkness to bring the light and our Christian hope? How often do I? These words are very convicting.

Shining Like the Sun

Hope on Hope
There are many, many items in my office and home that say “hope”. Each one has a special memory attached to it as they are all gifts from people. It’s fun having a name like mine.
Smiles Begin With....
Who makes you smile? Sometimes smiles begin with just that person’s presence. Sometimes smiles begin with their witty words. Sometimes smiles begin with their smile. It is often hard to be dour when someone smiles at me.
Grave Matters
On a recent trip with the Indiana Historical Society called “Grave Matters,” touring cemeteries in Southern Indiana, Jeannie, a grave expert accompanied us. She is pictured below in the first picture. She talked about how headstones have changed over the years from being religious in nature, then being more focused on nature, and how now these grave markers are showing the rise of pop culture.
Memory Making Moments
It was surprising how emotional the act of selling my dining room table became as I sat on the chairs waiting for the buyers to arrive. The set was bought in 2000 when we moved into the house on Cranberry Drive in Greenfield. It was my dream home and dream dining room table. A place to gather, to talk, to laugh, and to eat. Meals are about so much more than food.
“Too Soons”
It was such an honor to be at the funeral of a Pearl Harbor survivor, where three other survivors were also there to pay their last respects, or “too soons” as they were called during the service.
A Fishy Smell
The way the wind was blowing, I chose to eat inside as the fish smell at the tables on the dock was a bit strong. The large windows offered a nice view of the water though.
